About Us
Jose’s Journey:
My Story, Your Guide
In 2014, at 28, I survived a severe subarachnoid aneurysm that left me paralyzed on my left side. I lost my career, my marriage, and my sense of self. Hitting rock bottom and having nowhere else to go, I gave my life to God and found a renewed perspective.
I decided I was not broken or weak. I considered myself a natural athlete with extreme confidence prior to having a stroke, and I was not going to be defeated by this. I pushed myself to get better. Through faith, perseverance, and hard work I declared myself fully recovered mentally within five years, even as I continued to improve physically.

Navigating the Stages of Recovery & Setting Your Path
Understanding the emotional landscape of stroke recovery is crucial. In this step, we’ll identify where you are in your emotional journey and work together to define your path forward. The Emotional Stages of Stroke Recovery:
-
Denial: The initial shock and disbelief. Your brain and body are resetting, making it difficult to fully grasp what has occurred.
-
Depression: Reality sets in, often bringing feelings of "Why me?" impacting your mental and emotional well-being.
-
Anger: Frustration at your body or mind for the loss of previously effortless abilities, like walking smoothly or remembering information.
-
Acceptance: Coming to terms with the stroke and its lasting impact, while acknowledging that you are alive and your life is not over.
02
Defining Your Recovery Commitment:
Once we understand where you are emotionally, we'll focus on empowering you to move forward with purpose:
-
THE DECISION: Making the conscious choice to commit all your effort to recovery, no matter the challenges. This means pushing yourself even when you feel like giving up.
-
YOUR Motivation: Identifying the core reasons that fuel your desire to get better. This could be faith, family, career, or a personal drive.
-
The Goal: Clarifying the specific type of support you need from this program. Do you need someone to push and motivate you, provide moral support, offer practical advice, connect you with resources, or offer companionship throughout the process?
-
The Aggression: Channeling your motivation into a powerful drive to overcome pain, fatigue, and negative self-talk.
-
The Passion: Discovering what helps you stay positive daily, finding small joys that reinforce your ultimate goal of mental recovery and peace.
-
Success: Developing the confidence, a personalized game plan, and intrinsic motivation to continue your journey independently. This includes having "cheat codes" or strategies to find your "center" even during setbacks.
